Diets are incredibly common in the K-pop world since idols are expected to always look slim.
These 6 idols, however, had diets that were dangerously extreme and had fans worried about their health.

IU has opened up about struggling with anxiety and eating disorders over the course of her career, and in 2013 she revealed a strict diet she followed to lose 5 kg (11 lbs) in just 5 days. During the diet, IU consumed an apple for breakfast, 2 sweet potatoes for lunch, and a protein shake for dinner.

BTS’ Jimin is also well-known for his extreme diets, most notably when he ate only 1 meal per day for 10 days before his group’s ‘Blood Sweat & Tears’ comeback. This diet made him extremely dizzy and would cause him to faint during practices, greatly worrying his fellow members.

As a former member of I.O.I and gugudan, Mina has been made extremely aware of her appearance. When not happy with how she looked during ‘Produce 101,’ Mina decided to not eat at all and only consumed 2 bottles of sparkling water a day. Her lightest weight while dieting was approximately 42 kg (92 lbs).

BIGBANG member T.O.P lost a lot of weight before debuting in 2006. For 1 week during his trainee period, T.O.P only drank water and consumed a sweet red bean jelly called yanggaeng, which assisted him in losing a total of 20 kg (44 lbs) in 40 days.

As a soloist and former member of SISTAR, Soyou has been in the K-pop industry for a long time, leading her to try many different types of diets. To prepare for a bikini photoshoot, Soyou kept a diet of 4 quail egg whites and a glass of milk each day for a month. This diet led to her losing 8 kg (18 lbs) for the photoshoot with Elle Magazine.

EXO’s Xiumin has mastered eating a healthy diet, but he went through a lot of extreme measures before finding his current plan. He revealed that during EXO’s ‘Growl’ promotions, he would drink coffee exclusively and only eat every 2 days. During this time, he weighed only 53 kg (117 lbs).
